Foundation Oil Painting

The Master Copy

January 12 - March 18, 2026

In the second part of our three-part foundation series, students will engage in the time-honored practice of master copy painting. This classical approach allows students to gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of both the medium of oil painting and the techniques of the artist they choose to emulate. By closely studying the work of a great master, students can significantly enhance their personal artistic development and refine their technical skills in oil painting. Throughout the 10-week session, students will work on two master copies simultaneously, allowing them to build confidence and proficiency in oil painting by the end of the term.

Foundation Figure Drawing

Artistic Anatomy

January 13 - March 19, 2026

In the second installment of our three-part foundation series, students will immerse themselves in the intricacies of figure anatomy and proportion. Guided by live models, the journey begins with simple yet expressive gesture drawings, gradually progressing towards the creation of more intricate, convincing, and captivating three-dimensional figure renderings. Throughout this quarter, students will seize the opportunity to study and incorporate the nuances of superficial muscles and bony landmarks into their artwork. Furthermore, they will refine their techniques for portraying foreshortened figures while honing their observational skills, measuring techniques, and rendering abilities. Each stage of this learning process is designed to build upon the previous one, ultimately equipping students with the skills, confidence, and artistic capacity needed to produce truly compelling and beautiful figure drawing.
