Metalpoint is a drawing medium dating back to antiquity. The technique involves drawing with a fine wire of metal, such as silver (known as Silverpoint), platinum, or gold on a treated surface that captures fine particles of the metal. It is quite difficult to use because, unlike pencil or charcoal, metalpoint cannot be erased, so there is no room for error. The effect is a delicate grey drawing that enriches over time into a warm patina.
